Keep fresh air out of doors

A house's doors are its direct link to the outside world. As such, they are a real breach through which the cold can rush into your home. So it's important to insulate exterior doors properly, as well as those leading to cooler areas such as the garage or cellar.

You can then install door bottoms and seals. For interior doors, a simple solution can make all the difference. In particular, door seals at the bottom of doors in different rooms prevent cold air from circulating through the home.

Insulate your windows against the cold

For optimum insulation against the cold, remember to protect your windows. Check the condition of the seals and replace them if necessary. In particular, you can use self-adhesive insulation strips to place on the window frame. If your windows are very old, consider replacing them with double or triple glazing.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a more cost-effective way of insulating your windows, install an anti-cold film. This is a transparent, self-adhesive film that is applied directly to the glass and acts as a shield against the cold. It's specially designed to keep the heat in. What's more, anti-cold insulation film doesn't affect the luminosity or general aesthetics of your windows. It's a cost-effective way of considerably reducing heat loss in winter, and offers you the opportunity to save on your energy bill.

Protect your roof from air infiltration

If you live in a house, you should be aware that much of its heat can escape through the roof. Make sure your attic is properly insulated. If not, adding insulation or replacing existing insulation may be a solution to minimize your heat loss. Choose natural insulation such as wool, cellulose wadding or wood panels.

Keep your feet warm by insulating the floor

The floor can also be a source of heat loss. If your home has an unprotected basement, consider adding insulation under the floor. This can prevent cold air from rising up. Carpets can also help insulate your home against the cold. In fact, they play a dual role, warming floors naturally and decorating your interior. A cosy touch for a warmer, warmer room.

Caulk air leaks in walls

Your home may have small leaks that allow fresh air to infiltrate. To prevent heat loss, look for air leaks in places like air ducts, electrical outlets, switches and pipes, or cracks in the walls. Use caulking or sealing foams to seal them.
